Later, Crown Publisher published “Contemporary Classics” and “Choice series”. It contributed to the big sales of Harry Potter whose sales volume are over 1 million copies and made Crown and “Harry Potter” becomes household names. Now we all know that Crown is good at translating literature works.

The success of Crown Publisher can be attributed to two reasons. One is the founder’s hard work and the other is they stick to populism. Due to these two reasons, Crown plays a leading role in popular literature in Taiwan publishing field. That Ping Xin Tao is energetic and consistent contributed to the great accomplishment of Crown. He solved many complicated problems with great fortitude. His easygoing attitude won him and Crown much support and respect from many excellent authors. Ping Xin Tao did his utmost to lead Crown to achieve great triumphs in publishing popular literature. In 1984，Crown was relocated to 7-floor building at Dun Hua North Road. Moreover, his children joined the Crown. Since 1990，Crown has developed and expanded their businesses to Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and China. In 1997, Crown Culture Corporation was set up including5 different parts: 1. Crown Magazine 2. Crown Publishing Company Ltd (brand-recognition is the focus of their businesses). 3. Ping’s Publication Ltd (yield unusually brilliant results after publishing《總裁獅子心》和《乞丐囝仔》4. Ping’s Recording Ltd 5. Paperback Publishing Company Ltd (mainly publishing entertainers’ work). Vice president Ping Yun of Crown Culture Corporation nearly becomes the successor to president after Ping Xin Tao transferred his focus on other business. Still, Ping Xin Tao takes charge of Crown Magazine.
Comparatively speaking, Crown operates their businesses in a more conservative and moderate way than other publishers in past few years. To celebrate Crown’s 40th anniversary, they hold a “Popular Novel Prize” which is held every two year, but it seemed not getting positive response. Due to economic recession and serious competition in market, sales of Crown Magazine were downwards more or less. Thanks to the big sales of Harry Potter since 2000 and the glamorous celebration of 50th anniversary, Crown Culture Corporation seemed to be full of vitality again. Recently, they published even more new books. This made Crown, whose profits they earn is very consistent and stable, gain a great deal profits once more. In 1997, Aven Kuei completed her master studies in US. By the time, her good friend Mr. Amos Jan has already registered the company Formosa Event Management Company for her, awaiting her to fulfill her “savoir faire” in activity planning, and hoped that together they would bring the media business in Taiwan to another new horizon. However, Aven keeps in mind that the main reason she went to America to commence her further study in arts management is because she has long been in love with museums. Therefore, she changed the company’s name from Formosa onto the Five Senses Arts Management Association (5S) as you know nowadays. In the early days of establishment, 5S was fortunately supported by Mr. Guo-Chian Yu, the General Manager of Janfusun Fancyworld and Mr. Ching-Fu Lin, President of the Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines. Respectively, they invited 5S to plan and carry out “Janfusun Museum Exhibition Improvement Project” and “Special Publication for 5th Anniversary of Shung-Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines”. With their backing and trust, 5S was able to have a surefooted start.

Against the disagreements from all friends and relatives, Aven decided to put all the savings accumulated from the previous two projects into publishing two series of publications: “Arts Management Series” (arts management and museum studies) and “NPO Series” (non-for-profit management). From negotiating copyright to printing, from a beginner in book trade to gradually becoming the new blood in the business, 5S is even honored as the “blue ribbon” of the publication for this particular professional sector. During the past five years, 5S has already introduced fifteen classical publications into Taiwan, and there are another twenty books that are under the process of translating, editing, designing, and printing and will soon be launched.

Since 5S started its publishing business, more than six books have been reprinted. We have gratefully received more than eight hundred feedbacks from our readers for praises and comments. The support of our readers not only helps the becoming of 5S, but also is the driving force and motivation for us to achieve higher standard.

Apart from working as a consulting firm for museum planning and advisory as well as introducing books of good practice into the museum sector in Taiwan, 5S continues to promote the quality of arts management and non-profit organizations in the Chinese world. The eyes of the mainstream readers were mostly on the non-literary publications in the past decade; on the other hand, the literary publishing with the care of humanity has not been paid as much attention. The societal development in multi-perspective especially in economy an culture did not bring the awareness that literary publishing deserves. In order to start the renaissance, and to establish the core value of publishing – literature, INK Publishing (印刻出版有限公司) was born.

An-Ming Chu (初安民), who headed the Unitas A Literary Monthly (聯合文學) over ten years is the president and editor-in-chief for INK Publishing. It began its life with re-printing “Cicada (蟬)” written by Huae-Min Lin (林懷民) which positively surprised the literary world thirty years ago and many today’s writers in their highly productive time such as Wei-Chen Su (蘇偉貞) , Guo-Li Chang (張國立) , Chao Yang (楊照). Several renown writers from the mainland are also in the list for publishing in its early stage, Anyi Wang (王安憶) , Wei Zhang (張煒) , Chengchi Zhang (張承志) and etc. There are seven core series including Literature Series (文學叢書); INK Publishing plans to build an angle that would represent the Chinese Language Literature history, and to publish great works with the status of the era.

In the Future, INK Publishing would like to continue its goal to “map our shared stories, and to carry the various aspects of the world.” Several heavy weight writers in Chinese literature today are in our publishing plan including Si-Ning Chu (朱西甯), Po-Chou Lan (藍博洲), Tien-Hsin Chu (朱天心), Tien-Wen Chu (朱天文), Tse-Lai Song (宋澤萊), No Tang (唐諾), and Korean writer Shi Huang (黃皙).
