2008 / 01 / 05 | | | | | | The Taiwan Wealth Group which had established for 34 years has come to the end because the founder Qiu Yong Han, are old enough to get tired. The original CEO of the Wealth Cultural Company, Shie Jin-he and the team have received and carried on the business and established a new company, named as “SEEC MEDIA GROUP LTD”, on December, 28th, 2007.
The SEEC MEDIA GROUP LTD’s publication are “Wealth Daily On line”、 ” Wealth invest weekly”、“Making Money weekly”、 ” Business Today Weekly” 、” Wealth Magazine”、” Wealth Publishing”、 ”Wealth Network Corp” 、 ” Taiwan stock outlook” 、 ”King Money”, etc. The “Making Money Weekly” and the “Wealth Daily on Line” are the transformation of the “Wealth Weekly”. The Wealth Daily on Line” is published by e-paper, as a representation of developing into digital business of the SEEC MEDIA GROUP. And the “Making Money Weekly will be published in February.

| 2008 / 01 / 08 | | | | | | The Beijing Book Fair would be hold in Beijing International Exhibition Center on January 9 to 10. There would be 1,912 booths this year, it was extra 87 booths more than 1,825 booths of last year. The constant expending shows the book market of the Mainland china is keeping growing.
There are 630 exhibitors this year, 205 exhibitors are Beijing local publishers, 319 are coming from other areas; besides, there are 24 booths, and almost 100 publishing organizations coming from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Area. And the attending famous persons and star guests would be Guo Jing-ming, Yu Dan, Song Dan-dan, etc.
There are many improvements and new facilitators in this year Beijing Book Fair, such as the new ”Purchasing and Ordering Section for the Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, so the purchasers of the libraries can purchase and order the publications of the Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan directly in the locale. Besides, there will be copyright trading and signing ceremony in the manuscript copyright trade fair.

The Books.com.tw had suddenly announced new logistics services yesterday, it shorted the delivery time from 2 to 3 days to one day, and they will take the all new extra cost by themselves at the same time. The Boos.com.tw had spent almost ten millions dollars to extend their software equipment, which is adding the picture examine code to ensure the security of the private, and to prevent their member data. It will spend more 12 million dollars logistic cost each year, but will also bring the rise of the turnover.

And the Taipei Book Fair foundation will hold a warm-up activity in advance, named “The world is in the books, and the Book fair is in Hua-shan”, on February 2nd to 3rd in the Huashan Culture Park.
The president of Taipei Book fair foundation, Linden T. C. Lin said, the country theme of this year is “Australia”, they will show the young, natural, livingly, and variety culture of the Australia by the publishing, art, travel, life, the cuisine, etc. The invited visitors are the couples founders of the Lonely Planet traveling books, Tony Wheeler and Maureen Wheeler, the author of best-seller book” The book thief”, Markus Zusak, and the famous illustrator Shaun Tan (Chen Zhi-yong), to whom is an International prizes winner.

Since the big old book chain bookstores don’t appeared yet, and the individual, small old books in the Middle-south of Taiwan are getting more, the crafts looked forward to a common consensus and expect to establish a Public association to keep the market trade order.

| 2008 / 02 / 13 | | | | | | The TIBE foundation will join into the “International Publishers Association” (IPA), and the director-general of the Government Information Office, the sponsor of the TIBE, Hsieh Zhi-Wei would sign the agreement with the chairman of the IPA, Cabanalas on 12th, February.
IPA has established since 1896, is the remarkable organization of the International Publishing, their members coming from 50 countries or regions, and over 60 publishing group. The TIBE foundation showed, they had pushed hard to join the IPA for many years, but never made it because they are not a publishing organization, and not allowed to become a formal member of IPA. After negotiating, the IPA agreed with our application of cooperation partners this time, and the TIBE foundation will have the same right as the formal members. Before that, the IPA agreed the TIBE foundation to be attended as a cooperation partner last year.
There are Japan, South Korea, etc, joined in the IPA in Asia, the IPA annual conference will be hold in South Korea, by May Seoul Book Fair, and the TIBE foundation will attend the book fair at that time.

However, the president-general manager of The Commercial Press (Hong Kong), Lu Guo-Shen thought this book fair is the worst one in the years. “There are not much new titles, low-pitched of the suppliers, and the promotion, the drawing lots, the conferences are reducing, the suppliers only pushed more discount, the good atmosphere of the book was disappeared. It would be worse, if there have no “Australia theme Exhibition” and “French Travel-Literature Exhibition”.

| 2008 / 02 / 27 | | | | | | The Publishing of the two sides across the Taiwan Strait have communicated with each others for 20 years, the Copyright Protection Conference of the two sides across the Taiwan Strait were hold on 26th of February in Taipei by the joined sponsors: Library the Publishing Exchange Center across the Taiwan Strait, the Copyright Protection Center of China, and the Chinese Publishing Organization. The dealers of the two sides across the Taiwan Strait hoped to reach the relative agreement, and worked out the efficiency protection of the rights of the two side’s authors and the publishers, and helped to resolve the copyright disputes.
This is the first time to hold the monographic conference for two sides across the Taiwan Strait, the delegacy of the Mainland China Publishing, including more than 30 persons attended, came to Taiwan, and the vice-director of the Copyright Department of the National Copyright Administration of the People’s Republic of China, Zhai Li Feng made the cases analysis in the conference. The main topics of these 2days are including, the present situation of the copyright protection of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, the channel to resolve the copyright disputes, the analysis of the controversial copyright cases, the existence of the publishing market and the relatives and the function of the copyright protection organizations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, and the promoting the copyright consciences of the dealers and keep the basic classes, etc.

Ltd which has 20 stores in Hong Kong, all over Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, New Territories, recently opened their first Macau store at Rua do Campo de Freguesia da Sé, the transportation pivotal of Macau. The store is expected to be the cultural landmark in Macau. Macau store is a three-floor building with space of 3,600 square feet. The design is bright and elegant and the ambience is spacious and comfortable. The store also set up forum for activities and will hold cultural and educational activities consistently.
The Macau store has selection near 8,000 titles of both Chinese and English books. There are nearly 3,000 English titles. In addition, they also provide service to campus, offer high school and university customer ordering service.

“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” which was written back in 1950 is still well liked by readers and proves its enduring popularity. “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” which is already children book classics is said to have sold one copy every minute since it’s publication in 1969. The best loved author in the poll is Roald Dahl – in addition to “The BFG”, who also has other five books “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, “Matilda”, “The Twits”, “The Witches” and “James and the Giant Peach” listed in the top 30 best.

| 2008 / 03 / 17 | | | | | | The next Asian Youth Animation and Comic Contest and China Cartoon Art Festival will be held again in Guiyang.
The theme of next AYACC is “Cartoon Dream”. Artists from more than 20 counties and regions are invited, including David Gould, the producer of animation “Lord of the Rings” and “King Kong”, Ted Adams, the illustrator and publisher of “Transformers”, David Bolinsky, winner of international award for illustrations, Ram Mohan, Indian Walt Disney, and Kambiz Dembake, Iranian comic master.
A total of 2,976 submissions from 28 countries and regions entered the 2007 contest held in Guiyang. The contest also drew 210 animation and comic artists and worldwide renowned managers from animation and comics industry to Guiyang.

| 2008 / 03 / 19 | | | | | | The renowned Leipzig Book Fair came to a close on March 16, 2008. Two Chinese books, AFTER and ANT, won prizes.
There were altogether 626 books from 34 countries participating in the competition for “The Most Beautiful Book” . The Chinese book, “AFTER”, published by Tianjin Yangliuqing Fine Art Press, won "THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK" because of its "colorful layout and successful theme selection." “After” is designed by Chinese designers, Geng Geng and Wang Chengfu
The other book, ANT, published by Zhongguo Jiangsu Art Press won "THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK MAKING SPECIAL AWARD." The original and exquisite illustrations by Zhu Yingchun go well with the simple and philosophical text written by Zhou Zongwei.

| 2008 / 03 / 30 | | | | | | The Taipei Municipal Library announced the “The Best Young Adult and Children Book” list. There are 99 books on the lists and 40% are written by Taiwanese writers. The titles and reviews can be found in “2007 Good Book Guide”. All the branches of Taipei Municipal Library and 29 public libraries all over the island will hold exhibition of awarded books until April 28th.
Even though the recession of book market, there are still 172 publishers and 1380 books participating this competition. The topics are various and able to reflect social issues, including life and death, mental and physical disability, new immigrants, Dementia, aboriginal folk legend, rare diseases etc. But some judges commented that some of children publications emphasize too much on educational function. Writers and publishers both claim to reduce functionality and return the fun of reading.

| 2008 / 04 / 05 | | | | | | The 8 years’ publication of “Eslite Reader” drew to the end after issue 86 released in April. Eslite plans to introduce new magazine in the future.
“Eslite Reader” first published in July 2000. It used to be the newsletters for Eslite members. Because its good quality and content, “Eslite Reader” became a platform for reading information and opened to public, even was exported and sold in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia and ever reached printing of 40,000. To cope with the change of book market and information channel, Eslite not only ends the publication of Eslite Reader, but also prepares for new cultural and creative media of next stage.
Eslite published Eslite Reading in 1992, and ended in 1996. Now the “Eslite Reader” also drew to an end and “Publish Info” by Kingstone is only available on-line due to cost and market. The future of cultural journals in Taiwan is worrisome.

| 2008 / 04 / 08 | | | | | | The recently released “Blue Book of China Media” predicted that value of production of China media will reach 544 billion RMB in year 2008, increased 13.11% than year 2007. Book publishing and mobile media are still the top 1 and 2.
The blue book, leaded by section chief, Tsinghua University professor Cui Bao Guo, published “Report on Development of China’s Media Industry 2007-2008”. Based on statistics before February 2008, the total value of production of China’s media industry was 481.1 billion RMB, increased 13.6% compared year 2006. The market share of book publishing and mobile media reached over 20%. In addition to cable TV charge, value of some traditional media industries, such as book publishing, TV commercial and newspaper distribution all declined.
